We Are Digitech Excellence

The concept of continuous improvement dates back to the 1800s when many companies were running initiatives that encouraged employees to drive improvements and attached incentives to reward employees who contributed progressive changes to the company. This was also a time when a lot of attention was placed on devising scientific methodologies to analyse and solve production challenges, particularly to achieve better output rates and labour standards. This was then formalised by the US government through a program called “Training Within Industry” during the Second World War to improve industrial output on a national scale. Later on, the concept of continuous improvement was formalised through various philosophies and methodologies such as Total Quality Management (TQM), Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, ISO 9000, Theory of Constraints and Lean Six Sigma are the most popular. Although some variation exists in these methodologies, they are all aimed at small improvements to existing processes or systems which can be achieved incrementally or all at once (breakthrough) through the basics of Edward Deming’s Plan-Do-Act-Check (PDCA) cycle of continuously identifying improvement opportunities, formulating initiatives to exploit the identified opportunities, executing cascaded actions and milestones and reviewing the success of the implemented changes.
